This is it, surgery week. Each of Ethan’s surgeries has come with its challenges. This time it is that he has to fast for 4 days. He can have liquids, but I cannot imagine that making much of a difference.
Over the weekend, we took him to Hershey Park. Today Jenn is taking him to our [...]

So I am doing something you are not supposed to do. I stopped my happy pills.
At first it was a mistake. I fill those little pill boxes, for each day of the week. I was 4 pills short last week. So I put in the 3 I had and ordered a refill. The refill came [...]

This is your gut
Today has been all about meetings, one right after another. I am sitting at my desk for the first time today. I need to think about something other than work. So I blog.
We just got a surgery date for Ethan. He is having a Malone procedure. Unlike all of his previous surgeries, [...]

I bought a new scale yesterday. Our old scale varied wildly depending on where you stepped on it.
The new one is too honest. No matter where I stand on it, it gives me the same result.
I hate it when I can’t cheat and delude myself.

True to form, with Christmas coming, I have contracted the bunkus of Cahunkus.
I am not waiting for this to turn into a sinus infection, bronchitis or pneumonia…going to the doctor today.
Soup! I need soup!

Yesterday. Woof!
Yesterday was a mess. It started at about 12:45am. Ethan had a bad asthma attack. He came into our room and was barking. I went to get his nebulizer, but he did not sound too bad. By the time I got back to our room, Ethan was having a full on panic attack [...]

Today was supposed to be our biannual visit to the spina bifida. But as “luck” would have it, Ethan had a stomach virus and could not go. Awe…shucks, I so look forward to going into DC to get bad news. Now I could have gone into work. But I already had the day off and [...]

This picture just about says it all. We got to the pumpkin patch and spent about an hour there. We found a picnic table for lunch. While Ethan and I waited, Jenn went and got our food. By the time she got back, Ethan was almost crying with ear pain.
We dashed off to target [...]

Ethan had an endoscopy today. We were hoping the esophogitis might have gotten a little better. No dice. We have alleviated almost every allergen from his diet and stopped allergy shots. But there is no change. We will probably have to go back to Johns Hopkins for more tests. Oh joy.
On other fronts, we are [...]

So the meeting at Ethan’s school was just with the nurse. His new teacher was in training (how to inflict pain on children without leaving a mark). The meeting with the nurse, the backup nurse and other people whose roles I cannot even imagine was to go over E’s health plan. It all went well [...]
