Howdy Stranger

I notice that as life goes along, I pick up more and more social responsibilities.  The interactions are equally divided between necessity and drudgery.  Almost all revolve around casual acquaintances.  Not that I don’t like being around people, quite the contrary.  But I find casual acquaintances tedious.  Small talk is not a gift of mine.  [...]

Its Intended Use

Well there is no avoiding it.  Today I am cleaning the garage.
One of the appealing things about our new house was the fact that it had a garage.  Our old house had a huge driveway, but no carport or garage.  Now that we are in our new digs, we have a garage, but it is [...]

Snoring Injury

OK of late I have been snoring.  To try and mitigate the problem and bring my marriage back into harmony, I started using Breath Right strips.  My son thinks I have a perpetual broken nose.
So today I get into work and I feel like something is poking me in the chest.  Apparently a Breath Right [...]

Observing Excellence

My wife started a new job about two months ago.  She became the music director at our new church.  The first couple of weeks, she was really afraid that she was in over her head.  Several nights she came home in tears and cried that she was not the right person for the job.
Thankfully, I [...]

Disappointment

Today is Good Friday.  I am heading out for church in minutes.
As I work through my own failings of faith, I am reminded that I am not the first person to be disappointed with God.  Today we mark the date when Jesus was crucified.  For the disciples, there could not be a more disappointing day.  [...]

Squeaky

The trees in my neighborhood are doing the deed.  As a result, I am congestion boy.  I have no voice.  Well I have some voice, but it’s a Kathleen Turner kind of thing.
I am off to Sam’s Club to buy a pallet of Zyrtec.

Maintenance

The older I get, the more I realize that most of life revolves around maintenance.  Stuff just falls apart over time.  Having recently completed my 40th orbit of the sun, I now see the future like never before.  My illusions of immortality are shattered.
My parents visited this week.  They are but 22 years older than [...]

Rents

My parents are in town to spend spring break with the grandkid.  I am catching up on all of the gossip from my home town.
Same as it ever was…
Yawn

Whose child is that?

So my wife is the new music director at out church.  She enjoys the job, but sometimes finds it challenging to find competent musicians.  Last week she had a professional pianist play with her worship team.

Later at lunch I told her I really liked the new pianist.  Ethan waits for a lull in the whole [...]

…in a bottle…

I am reading a book called “The Time Traveler’s Wife.”  It is about a guy that becomes “unstuck” in time.  He revisits key moments in his and others lives.  His wife gets visited throughout her childhood by her future husband.

I love the idea of time travel.  “Slaughterhouse 5” is another time travel book that I [...]
